"eyewitness news". >> on the heels of the ray rice fallout yet another scandal rocks the nfl. tonight star rupping back adrian peterson charged with abusing his young son and tonight we're seeing pictures and text messages. g evening everyone. i'm natasha brown. jessica is off. >> i'm chris may. well tonight the nfl is definitely moving from one crisis to another. minnesota vikings star oning back adrian peterson faces a charge of child abuse in tech text. peterson accused of beating his own son with a switch. a texas grand jury indicted the six time pro bowl running back accusing him of causing serious injuries to his four year old son during a visit to peterson's home in may. these photographs from a draft at the police report obtained by cbs sports radio 610 in houston purports to cause his injuries. cuts and bruises to his

buttocks, ankles and leg and defensive wounds to his hands. law enforcement tell the staying peterson used a switch look this a part of a tree branch to spank his son. after the boy had pushed a sibling. another police photo captures peterson showing investigators how he pulled it from a tree. the investigation also revealed these text messages set said to be between peterson and the boy's mother. so you will be mad at me about his leg the player wrote. i got kind of good with the tail end of the switch. and later he got about five more pops than normal. he didn't drop one tear. the boy's injuries were discovered later during a doctor's appointment which led to the formal investigation. peterson's lawyer rusty harden says the player has fully cooperated with investigators and regrets what he called a quote unintentional injury. in a statement hardin says in part, adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as parent to discipline his son. he used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child

growing up in east texas. >> tonight the vikings organization is taking action following the indictment of its best player. "eyewitness sports" director beasley reece is here now with more on that part of the story. beasley, this is unbelievable really. >> it really is. we know that while minnesota the vikings continue to gather information they have deactivated peterson for this weekend's game against the new england patriots. he will not play on sunday in minneapolis. now, the vikings released the following state saying they are in the process of gathering information rhee regarding the legal situation involving adrian peterson. at this time we will defer further questions to adrian's attorney russ city hardin. as for the commissioner, commissioner roger goodell, is again under the microscope. this time involving one of the biggest names in football. i've have calls in my contacts at the nfl and nfl players association without response. in fact, following the criticism

jumped in the water near the 1600 block of south columbus boulevard. now police say the 48 year old was on a pier fishing with his son when he decided to swim to the other side of the pier. there's no word on the victim's identity just yet. and a car slammed through a fence and into a building in camden. the driver was impaled by a pole that went through the windshie windshield. this all happened at seventh and spruce to into the. eyewitnesses also say the car hit two pedestrians but they were not seriousl seriously hur. right now there's no wore on the driver's condition and the cause of this crash is still under investigation. >> a jury hands down a guilty verdict against the woman accused of kidnapping a five year old little girl from school and sexually assaulting her last year. and tonight our walt hunter takes us inside the investigation and get a first-hand look at the evidence that led to a conviction in this case. >> reporter: the mother of a the five year old victim with her attorney left the criminal justice center.

the journey for justice for her daughter now over. her attacker christina rei gust who's had abducted the girl from her west philadelphia school sexually assaulting and a banning her in playground now convicted on all counts. >> i'm very thankful that this monster was found guilty. >> this child is one of the most if not the most remarkable child that i've had the pleasure of coming in contact with. >> prosecutors play the little girl who despite horrifying injuries helped gather evidence including remembering the squash squawking avenue macaw inside the home where she had been blindfolded and imprisoned. >> she was telling us i'm getting really really tired i don't feel good but i really want to help. i don't want to stop. >> reporter: among the evidence, convincing jurors of regusters guilt, a 911 tape obtained by kyw news radio as good samaritans nelson mandela myers who found the victim in app upper darby playground

crying, shivering and wearing only a t-shirt came to her rescue. >> i was walking and all i heard saying help, help, help, somebody help me. >> one of the juror who's asked to remain anonymous says, a dna match with regusters was a major factor. certainly the dna evidence was strong. the strongest factor in our decision. we got the right person and justice will be done. i'm certain the familiar lull have some type of closure. >> i'm going to ask for at the least amount i can get hoping the judge will listen. >> defense attorney fred harrison hopes the judge not to impose the live sentence prosecutors are asking for regusters. while the victim now tries to move forward with her life forever changed. >> there are physical and emotional scars that are there for life and that's why this case was so important. >> reporter: with this verdict in, a second trial is still ahead. the victim and her family suing the philadelphia school district for lacked security that they

claim a loud regusters to abduction the five year old from her classroom. and then carry out this terrible crime. i'm walt hunter, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> walt, thank you very much. oscar pistorius is awaiting sentencing to night. the owe limb pack was convicted today of culpable homicide in the shooting death of his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. the judge said there was not enough evidence to find pistorius guilty of premeditated murder but culpable homicide is the equivalent to manslaughter here in the us. pistorius faces up to 15 years in prison but the judge could also decide not to send him to jail at all. >> well the philadelphia housing authority plans to implode a high rise forcing some nearby residents to leave their homes. the queen lane apartments in germantown will be reduced to rubble about eight hours from now. this is 16-story building that is nearly a block wide. it's in a densely populated area with some homes right across the

street. tonight some neighbors tell us they worry what's going to be left behind when the dust settles. >> my front is really bad and -- my asthma is very bad. i know there's going to be lot of dust. >> robinson and 90 other residents live in one block radius and they'll have to evacuate by 6:00 o'clock in the morning. the city has ordered about 400 others living within two block radius to stay inside with their doors and windows closed. the city says it is committed that cleaning up any mess that's left behind by that implosion. and workers at the taj mahal in atlantic city have received notice now that the casino could shut down for good in notify. trump entertainment resorts said it sent the notice to more than 31 head dread employees. the company filed for bankruptcy on tuesday and threatened to close the taj mahal if it didn't get concessions from unions. it pointed to november 13th as a tentative closure date. >> now we have news tonight about one of the doctors

>> back now on "eyewitness news" with very dramatic images here from ice land. the barter volcano continues to erupt much it's been going strong like this since august the 31st. fortunately the eruption is in a remote area away from homes and people. the volcano is spewing a lot of sulfur dioxide into the air which cause respiratory proble problems. >> there are new developments tonight in the joan rivers death investigation. the medical director of the upper east side clinic where the comedian went into cardiac arrest no longer works there.

cling spokesperson did not elaborate on the circumstances. the 81 year old rivers died on september 4th a week after going into cardiac arrest during a routine endoscopy. the state health department has said it's investigating the whole matter. >> the mayor of toronto rob ford has dropped his bad for re-election today. he is being treated for tumor in his ab. it's unclear receipt now if the tumor is malignant. the dramatic end to the campaign comes following a stint in rehab and calls for ford to quit among both drug and alcohol scandals. for now ford says he plans to seek a seat to the oh city council in a town near toronto. he asked his brother dug to run in his place for toronto mayor. >> new at 11:00 o'clock night, a special honor for a 14 year old who's fighting cancer. >> he got his wish, a break from treatment and a most memorable trip to football game at his high school. freshman michael shelly led the marple newtown if the ball team

out for their home opener tonight. michael is battling non hodgkin's lymphoma he was diagnosed just about a month ago. he says the support of the team and the student body makes all the difference. >> it helps a lot. i mean they support -- my team supports me the whole time and i can't wait to get back on the field next year. >> mike still has months of chemo ahead of him and we wish him the very best. >> yes, we do. >> meantime more than a thus sand people taking a step toward finding a cure for breast cancer this weekend.
